Document Date: Updated November 2023
Document Supports: da Vinci 10.0 and Higher

The following are common questions and answers relating to Savant Central Management (SCM) based subscriptions and related features:

Hosts

Pro/Super Pro & SHR/SHC-2000 Hosts

  1. Do I need a new license/subscription to upgrade a system to da Vinci 10?

After a Home is upgraded to da Vinci 10.x and claimed in SCM, an Essentials Subscription can be purchased directly in the Subscriptions tab of SCM. Purchasing an Essentials subscription automatically upgrades the Home without needing a separate upgrade license.

  2. Can I apply an Original Runtime license to a new unlicensed Host after upgrading the runtime to da Vinci 10?

    Yes.

S2 & Embedded Hosts

  1. What about Hosts that don't require a Runtime license? Do these Hosts need a new license?

Regardless of Host or Runtime type, to unlock Subscription-based features, the Home will need an active Essentials subscription.

Ecosystem and EVO Hosts

  1. What is required to deploy a Host with the Ecosystem or EVO runtime license?

Hosts deployed with an Ecosystem or EVO runtime license must also have an active Essentials Subscription to deploy and upload a configuration. Refer to the Ecosystem & EVO Host Licensing Frequently Asked Questions on the Savant Customer Community for more information.

General

  1. Can I copy and paste an Essentials Subscription License code from SCM and apply it in System Monitor?

    Yes.

  2. What is Savant Essentials?

Savant Essentials represents subscription-based access to an ever-increasing set of additional features such as cloud backups of all current user preferences and settings. For a current list of features, navigate to SCM and select the Home, then select Subscriptions > More Details.

  3. What is Savant Smart Network?

Savant Smart Networking (SSN) leverages Juniper Networks Mist AI and its cloud-native architecture to bring unparalleled agility, scale, and resiliency to wireless networking.

SSN delivers a wireless experience the largest network operators in the world turn to for their wireless networking needs. Features provided by this annual subscription include daily AI-Driven Radio Optimizations, on-demand anomaly detection and mitigation, remote firmware updates, security patches, and, most importantly, a wireless network that measures and improves user experiences every minute of every day.

  4. Does Savant offer monthly subscriptions?

No, Savant currently only offers annual subscriptions.

  5. How are subscriptions purchased, and who can buy them?
Essentials Subscriptions can be purchased in both the Savant Store and Savant Central Management.
    • Savant offers 1-Year Essentials Subscriptions (SSL) through the Savant Store. These subscriptions expire after the term of 1 year and can be "stacked" up to 5 years. These subscriptions are available only to Savant Integrators and Distributors that buy directly from Savant.
    • Savant offers auto renewing Subscriptions through Savant Central Management. These subscriptions are available to all Savant Integrators that buy directly from Savant as well as all Savant Integrators/Dealers that purchase through distribution.

  6. Where can I view the subscription status of a Home?

There are several methods to see the subscription status and expiration date:
    A. Recommended: Savant Central Management > (Select the Home) > Subscriptions
    B. Savant App > Settings > Subscribed Features
    C. Savant Home Manager > Subscriptions

  7. What happens if the Essentials Subscription is not renewed after the expiration date?

The subscription will not renew and Essentials-specific functionality, such as configuration uploading, will be disabled.

  8. Will the Savant App tell the user their Home trial is expired? Will the user be told anything about subscriptions?

The Savant app will display expiration date information to users for subscriptions set to expire within 30 days or less. The Dealer will receive an email if they enable email notifications via the Savant Customer Community > My Settings > Notifications.

  9. Does the Savant app to tell me my 1-year Essentials subscription has expired?

Yes, an Admin user can navigate to Settings > Subscribed Features within the Savant app to view the subscription status for the Home. Renewal or expiration dates for an active subscription are displayed here, along with directions for the user to contact their Savant Dealer for subscription management. Users will not receive any email notifications regarding subscription status.

  10. Will I still be able to apply Feature Licenses (Ring, Home App, and Zoom Rooms) to a system running 10.0 and later?

Yes, da Vinci 10 will still respect the number of feature licenses purchased before da Vinci 10.0 but will not allow for unlimited instances of the device as it would under an Essentials Subscription. If the Home is enrolled in an autorenewing subscription managed by SCM, unused feature licenses cannot be applied. All features enabled by these three feature licenses are already included in an Essentials Subscription.

  11. Can a consumer purchase a subscription directly?

No, subscriptions are available only by Savant Integrators/Dealers. Homeowners will have visibility to subscription status via the Savant app and Savant Home Manager but cannot purchase or manage their subscriptions. Consumer-managed subscriptions are planned for future release.

  12. Will the Savant Home Manager or Savant app show the end user the subscription prices?

No, pricing is not shown to end users for Savant subscriptions.

  13. Does the Savant app list the subscription status for all offered subscriptions?

The Savant App currently only displays the status of Savant Essentials. Smart Network subscription status is not shown. Savant Home Manager also shows the Savant Essentials subscription status.

  14. Can international dealers purchase RECURRING subscriptions in Savant Central Management??

Non-direct international dealers can purchase subscriptions from Savant Central Management. All transactions are in USD, and any state/local taxes will be added during checkout.

  15. Why are recurring subscriptions managed in Savant Central Management instead of the Savant Store or the Savant Customer Community?

Savant Central Management is the interface where all dealers go to configure and monitor their clients' homes (including dealers that do not buy directly from the Savant Store). Since this tool is available to all our dealer types, we can open up this feature to everyone the same way.

  16. Does every employee of a Dealer with SCM access have permission to purchase a Savant Essentials or Smart Network subscription?

No. Permission to purchase is set on the CONTACTS page of the Dealer's Savant Community Page. All Dealers that buy directly from the Savant Store with STORE, BILLING, or ADMIN permissions by default, have permission to purchase a Savant Essentials or Smart Network subscription. All Dealers that purchase non-direct (through distribution) with ADMIN permission will, by default, have permission to buy.

  17. As an Integrator that buys directly from the Savant Store, will all my saved credit cards be available to select from?

No. For security/privacy reasons, we will not share credit card information across the two platforms. Credit card information used to purchase in SCM will need to be re-entered.

  18. Do I need an internet connection to activate the Essentials Subscription?

Yes, an internet connection is required to activate any licenses and subscriptions on the Home.

  19. Can I transfer a subscription to other SCM Jobs or Homes?

No, licenses and subscriptions are non-transferable. Home licenses and subscriptions are only transferable within the same Home to new or replacement Hosts.

  20. Will Blueprint tell me that I need an Essentials subscription for my configuration as it does for other license types?

No updates to Blueprint regarding the license state have been added.

  21. Can a subscription be canceled?

Yes, any subscription can be canceled at any time. When a subscription is canceled, features will simply continue until the end of the current subscription period.

  22. Can Savant app Admin users cancel subscriptions at any time?

The only way for a Savant app Admin User to cancel a subscription is to remove their Savant Dealer from the Savant app under Settings > My Savant Dealer. The subscription to the Home will not renew and will still have the subscription features until the current term runs out. A Savant Dealer will be required to re-enroll the Home in a subscription.
Note: All Homes must be claimed in SCM to have a subscription applied.

Savant Recurring Subscriptions in SCM – Getting Started

  1. How does a Savant Integrator/Dealer subscribe a Home to a subscription?

A Savant Central Management dealer organization must claim a client's Home to enroll in a subscription. Claiming a Home to an organization in Savant Central Management can be achieved remotely by requesting the remote claim code. The claim code is available in the Savant App > Settings > My Savant Dealer. Any claimed Home to Savant Central Management can be enrolled in a subscription by navigating to the Subscriptions tab or by clicking Subscribe on the Home Status page.

  2. Why is there only one Home subscription renewal date, and my subscriptions are prorated to the renewal date?

Every Home will have one subscription renewal date to streamline the handling of multiple subscription types and not have Savant Essentials, Smart Network, or any other subscription Savant may offer in the future, renewing at different dates. There will always be one Home renewal date and, therefore, one total Home annual subscription price.

  3. If a Home is in the middle of an existing subscription like Savant Essentials and a Dealer/Integrator adds a Smart Network subscription, how much would be paid now, and then what would the renewal price be?

If an additional subscription is added to a Home, a prorated amount of the new subscription must be paid now. Then, the total cost of the annual subscription will be charged at the existing subscription's renewal date. The only exception to this is when a Home is in a Savant Essentials 3-month trial. We are doing this to make one precise subscription renewal date and price a year.

    • Example 1: A dealer/integrator deploys a Smart Network Juniper Mist AP 4 months into an annual Savant Essentials subscription. The dealer/integrator will be required to pay an 8-month proration amount of 1 year of Smart Network AP at the time of deployment and then the total price of Savant Essentials and Smart Network at the Home's renewal date eight months later.
    • Example 2: A dealer/integrator deploys one additional Smart Network Juniper Mist AP to a job site seven months after the initial deployment. The dealer/integrator will be required to pay a 5-month proration amount of a one-year Smart Network Subscription at the time of deployment for the AP. The full annual price of the new total of APs on the job will be charged five months after deployment, one year after the initial deployment.

  4. Is Savant Essentials required for Smart Network subscriptions?

No, Smart Network subscriptions do not require an active Savant Essentials subscription. You can subscribe a Home to Smart Network without an active Savant Essentials subscription.

  5. Is a Savant Host required for a Savant Smart Network subscription?

Yes, currently, a Savant Host is required for a Home to subscribe to Savant Smart Network. "Host-less" Homes are not supported.

  6. After introducing Recurring subscriptions, will Savant still allow 1-Year Savant Essentials Licenses (SSL) to be used on Savant Homes?

Yes, you can still use purchased Savant 1-Year ANNUAL Essentials licenses purchased through the Savant Store on homes. However, homes subscribed to a RECURRING subscription through Savant Central Management will not be able to have 1 one-year annual SSL License applied to them while in an active subscription.

  7. Why do Dealers/Integrators see a "Subscribe" button for Homes or Service+Hosts with multiple 1-year Annual Savant Essentials SSLs already applied?

For homes that are currently enrolled in Savant Essentials using the 1-Year ANNUAL Savant Essentials Licenses, dealers will be able to transfer these homes to auto-renewing subscriptions by selecting the "Subscribe" button. The Home's subscription renewal date will be set when each existing stacked license expires and a new one becomes active. Dealers will be asked for payment information, but the payment method will only be charged once the existing Savant Essential licenses are consumed. Existing Savant Essential licenses or other remaining product credits will be shown as a remaining balance. The remaining credit balance will be applied to the total price at renewal first before the selected payment method.

  8. When does the service start when a subscription is purchased, and when will it renew?

Service provided by a subscription starts on the day a dealer/integrator purchases and subscribes. The subscription will automatically renew on the same day each year as the initial start date. For example, if I signed up for my subscription on May 27th, 2022, then my next renewal date and the charge will be on May 27th, 2023. If a Dealer/Integrator happens to subscribe on February 29th during a leap year, then it will be set to automatically renew on February 28th of the following year and for each year after that. If the Dealer/Integrator starts an annual subscription during the 90-day free trial period, it will delay the start of their subscription and the billing for that subscription to the end of their trial period.

  9. Does Savant offer refunds for a subscription in process?

No, all sales are final, and no refunds are available.

  10. Does Savant offer a Free Trial of any of the subscriptions?

Savant offers a 90-day free trial of Savant Essentials for any new da Vinci 10.x Home.

  11. How does the Savant Essentials 90-day Free Trial work, and what are the eligibility criteria?

Dealers/Integrators can enjoy a 90-day free trial of Savant Essentials issued when the first Admin Savant Account Cloud User is bound to the Home. Each new Host shipping with da Vinci 10 pre-installed, regardless of Host type, is eligible for the trial. Existing fielded homes running da Vinci 9.X or earlier are not eligible for a free trial. They must subscribe to 1 year of Savant Essentials to receive a 10.0 upgrade Pro license automatically applied to the Host. (Reminder: S2/Embedded Hosts do not need upgrade licenses). Once the trial has started, the Home is no longer eligible for a future free trial on a different account. You cannot defer a free trial period once it already started.

  12. Do all subscriptions support a trial? What happens if someone subscribes to a Smart Network Subscription when there is an active Savant Essentials trial?

If a Savant Essentials subscription is purchased during the free trial, the credit card is charged at the end of the trial period for the following year of Savant Essentials. If a user cancels the subscription before the end of the free trial, the credit card will not be charged, and the Savant Essentials subscription will end at the end of the free trial. Smart Network Access Point subscriptions do not support trial periods. If a user subscribes to a Smart Network Access Point subscription while there is an active trial of Savant Essentials, users will be charged a prorated Smart Network Access Point subscription price for the remaining length of the trial. At the end of the trial, the subscriptions will be charged the full 1-year amount.

  13. What Subscription Status is shown in "Jobs & Home" on Savant Central Management (SCM)?

Both Savant Essentials and Smart Networks subscription status is shown for every Home, along with their renewal or subscription end date. The green checkmark represents a valid Savant Essentials subscription, and the green Wi-Fi icon represents a valid Smart Networks subscription. If the subscription is expiring in less than 90 days, the indicator will turn into a red exclamation (!) point. If a subscription is passing, the date will be red in the "Renewal Date" column.

  14. Where can the Dealers download an invoice for a subscription transaction?

You can download an invoice in the Savant Community.

  15. What happens when a Host has to be RMA'd? Will subscriptions transfer?

Savant Essentials and Smart Network Juniper Mist AP subscriptions will transfer as part of the Host Backup & Restore feature in the Savant app when the current Host is offline.

  16. What happens if a user loses access to a Home or the Home changes ownership?

A support case will need to be made, and a Support Technician will need to assist.

  17. What happens if a job site upgrades its Host hardware from S2/Smart to Pro Host?

A support case will need to be made, and a Support Technician will need to assist.

  18. How will Dealers be notified when a subscription will renew or if there are issues with payment methods?

You can opt-in to subscription and payment status notifications by enabling SCM Purchasing by navigating to Savant Customer Community > My Settings > Notifications. Notification emails include the following and will only be sent to the Dealer/Integrator, not the Savant Account users of the Savant Home where the subscription is active.

    • New Subscriptions
    • Subscription will renew in 14 days
    • Subscription renewal confirmation
    • Subscription canceled confirmation
    • Subscription will expire in 14 days
    • Subscription expired
    • New Payment Method
    • Added Payment Method
    • Removed Payment Method
    • Expiring Payment Method Declined

  19. Where can Dealers view a complete financial picture of subscription performance across their job sites?

The Savant Community has a new SUBSCRIPTIONS page under MY ACCOUNT. The "SUBSCRIPTIONS" page shows a number of key performance indicators, such as the total number of active/inactive subscriptions, subscription sales figures, and quarterly reports.

  20. What are the legal terms a Dealer is agreeing to in Checkout?

A Dealer using Savant Central Management to purchase subscriptions agrees to the  Savant Subscriptions Terms and Conditions, allowing Savant to automatically charge their payment method, and if configured/deployed a Savant Smart Network, the  Juniper Network Inc's Terms of Use.

No. Savant does not recommend that a Dealer/Integrator use a client's credit card to subscribe to a Home in Savant Central Management, as the payment method could accidentally be applied to any Home in your Organization in Savant Central Management.

  5. What is the process to follow if a dealer/integrator Credit Card gets declined or does not process?

The dealer/Integrator should contact their card issuer's bank to resolve the issue. If the dealer/integrator cannot resolve the issue with the bank, or the bank has indicated a problem with Savant's payment processor as an error, we will ask the dealer/integrator to share these details with us so we can help resolve the issue.

  6. What happens if the Dealer deletes a payment method that is being used for existing Home subscriptions?

The Home's subscriptions will be transferred to the Dealer's default payment method in SCM.

  7. What happens if the Dealer/Integrator deletes the "Default" payment method in Savant Central Management?

You can only delete the "Default" payment method if it is the only payment method on file. The homes subscribed to this payment method will have their subscriptions canceled and will no longer renew if the default payment method is deleted.

  8. Can the Dealer/Integrator change the "Default" payment method in Savant Central Management?

Yes, you can select "Make Default" for any payment method if you would like that to be used as the default payment method when purchasing subscriptions for future homes.

If you need to transfer multiple existing Home subscriptions to a new card, it is recommended to add the new payment method as the "Default, then delete the old payment method. The subscriptions from the old card will be transferred to this new card. Once you remove the card, you can set your preferred "Default" payment method for any payment method saved in SCM.

  12. Will the Dealer/Integrator be charged Sales Tax on a subscription?

State and Local taxes will be calculated and added to the subscription after checkout unless the dealer is tax-exempt and has a tax-exempt certificate on file with Savant. Tax-exempt status is only available to direct USA-based dealers. Final taxes will be itemized on the subscription invoice that can be downloaded from the Billing History in Savant Central Management.
